Newborn Photography Sessions
The perfect age
To create those beautifully sleepy and cuddley shots, newborn sessions are best done between 5-10 days of age. This really is a perfect age as any skin conditions or baby acne have not yet appeared and colic is usually a little way off! They are also so snoozy so much of the time, meaning we should be able to get a range of different shots and cuddles without waking them, as well as a few of those brief wide-eyed moments.
The session itself
Leaving the house during those early days can seem like a daunting task, and for this reason these sessions take place in the comfort of your own home. This should hopefully alleviate any stress for you and mean you have all your home comforts and everything you need close to hand.
I allow 2-4 hours for these sessions to make sure there is plenty of time for feeding and cuddles. I have been there myself and know exactly how unpredictable newborns can be, so please don’t worry. I am very patient and will only leave once we are all happy that we have enough shots.
My style
I try to create shots which are as natural as possible. Babies are beautiful enough as they are and I try to avoid over using any props or false posing. I want you to remember your baby as they really are, and try to honestly capture the atmosphere and wonderful time in your family’s life. I love to incorporate shots of your baby’s nursery or a special quilt or teddy so we have all the parts to the story.
I have lots of tips on how to prepare for your newborn session to share with you to make sure everything goes as smoothly as possible!
Booking
As there is only a small window of time in which these sessions work best, I recommend booking as far in advance as possible. But as we all know babies never like to stick to a schedule so if your little one decides to make an appearance earlier or later than expected I will do my very best to fit you in.
